Tim, "Silat" to me is like taking a little Kali, some WC, BJJ and a tiny knife, throw it in a blender and bang! Suwanda Mande Muda Silat

Tracy...just curious... do you remember Herman's counter to the guard? I do and like you I have experienced by Herman himself and I must say that was the most effective counter to the guard I have ever seen or felt. I do not think I have ever released the guard that fast in my life.

I do remember that counter... pain is the quickest teacher. A good place to use a little trapping would of been when Herman attacked my groin! and twisted! kinda makes your whole body lock up. I should have slapped his attacking arm down while throwing my punch.

Trapping while grappling is a good thing.

Tracy...my brother. I knew that would bring back memories for you. It sure did for me...although I am still trying to forget those particular memories. It is not fun to have that happen in the middle of a seminar because you always have that one guy in attendance who always says " can you show that again" and then the same guy will go and work it and not be able to get it so you have to go through the pain all over again...lol

Just to kinda get off the subject for a moment...I really like how kali zones off from the attacking hand while opening the guy up for your attack. like the scoop that you see so much in kali. I have implemented the scoop into my boxing and it really works great. When my opponent throws a jab or a straight right I will scoop it from the outside to open up his centerline and immediately hit with the same hand. So if I scoop with my right then I hit with my right. It is not a power shot but it does have alot of snap in it and it sets up your second hit. It also frustrates your opponent when you do it which also works to your advantage.

Try working the scoop when you are sparring or working your striking game. When I work this I will work it for a couple of rounds and that is all I will do. My opponent can do anything he likes but I must only work the scoop. Really cool stuff. Then try it with a knife which is what it was made for. Great stuff!

Yeah Tim I think i remember you asking "to see the technique again". And not that you needed to see it but just to have a little fun with your brother...lol thats what brothers are for though, i love it!

I also like the scoop, Tim. It is a good tactic to use when your opponent is tired or he has a slow jab. Its a little harder to use against a fast jab (the tap or slap is more probable). In either case, the scoop can be followed by a punch and slap assist (other wise known as Pak Da) with a split entry or beating the opponents second punch by shutting it down with a suppression.  The Scoop - a good solid tactic.

    Train hard brothers.

    Tracy.
