    Networking

I have a full time job (45 hours a week) and I teach private lessons at night. Due to my schedule of work, lodge meetings, family stuff and volunteer work I find it tough to do much advertising. Do any of you have that problem? I find that my best results come from word of mouth networking at work or at social functions. I have an okay website and solid background but I have noticed that can only take you so far. What has any one here found the best way to network for martial arts success? Just curious.

    Hey Sifu Uga,

One thing I like doing is going around and introducing myself to the different schools that are in my area. Alot of times you will meet some really close minded people who view you only as competition. Other times you will meet some really open minded people who will invite you to some of their classes and will take the time to get to know and these are the ones that you want. I have several friends who are school owners that I talk with on a regular basis and I met them the same way I just mentioned to you. Some of these guys will call me up from time to time and ask if I can stop by and teach a class on weapons or on grappling or something else. Other times they will ask if I can come in and be a guest instructor and sit in on a student test with them. Other things you can do is print up a few flyers and take them to your local college and post them on the bulletin boards.

    Re: Networking

You could also have business cards on hand at all times and pass them out to everyone you meet and tell them to pass them to others that they know. Increase the word of mouth marketing that you are already doing. Maybe add on your cards that you give a FREE lesson/consultation.

Maybe you could take a small amount of time each week and get a map of your area and draw a circle 3 miles in circumference and inside that circle get the addresses of all the businesses and go to each and make your self and intentions known and maybe hang a flyer/card up in their shop (give the owner/MGR a free lesson - $75 value). Gyms are a good place, not the corporate gyms but the small ones, laundry mats, tanning salons, etc..

    Good luck and great success!
